Old story but I get quite a few of these:
http://www.courtnewsuk.co.uk/crime_archive/?id=36246A former soldier brought terror to a south London off-licence when he
walked in carrying a three foot long Bren gun and ammunition magazine, a court
heard.
But with astonishing cool-headedness and courage, a member of staff, Mr
Shabbir Choudhury politely asked the gunman to leave because he was scaring
the customers.
Brian Miller-Richardson, 29, responded by declaring that he was 'ex-army
and people should be scared of him,' said prosecutor Mr Tony Docking.
Standing his ground the shopkeeper again urged Miller-Richardson to leave
at which point the defendant attempted to fit the magazine to the gun 'but
failed to do so', the court heard.
Meanwhile a member of the public had alerted police who arrived to see
people fleeing the area of the store at (67) Stockwell Road, Stockwell.
By the time officers arrived Miller-Richardson was standing in the doorway
of a nearby minicab hire company, the court heard.
'They feared for their own safety and for the safety of members of the
public. They drew their batons and approached the defendant,' said counsel.
Mr Docking.
Miller-Richardson was disarmed and taken into custody.
Three days before this incident he had been arrested in possession of the
same gun, but was not charged because carrying such a gun - a de-activated
weapon - in a public place 'does not constitute an offence,' explained
counsel.
'He had got the gun back from the police station earlier in the afternoon
of this incident and he may well have been intending to take it home,' said
Mr Docking.
Miller-Richardson of Hollybush Walk, Brixton, denies possessing an
imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence on January 9, this
year.
He admits carrying the de-activated Bren gun, but maintains he had no
intent to cause fear of violence. - See more at: http://www.courtnewsuk.co.uk/crime_archive/?id=36246#sthash.QoCkjsdP.dpuf
